Vasant Panchami, 2022

Vasant Panchami, 2022

Today is Vasant Panchami- the onset of Spring, light and colour! And Holi, the celebration of the spirit of spring, just 40 calendar days apart.

Today also marks the completion of week 1 of me being in Leh.

I woke up to a bright sunshine hitting the frosted window panes of my hostel room. I’ve never lived in sub-zero ever, but on a bright sunny day like today, waking up to negative 16 degrees was not as difficult.

On a bright sunny day like today, the browned poplar turns bronze and the brownish-golden leaves flutter to the crisp wintry breeze, against the silvery white powder enveloping the city like a blanket, almost protecting all from the cold. I’m getting a good taste of this desert life.

I am actually dumbfounded at the vastness of this place. Under the safety and the protection of the mighty mountains – the Himalayas, like a baby being caressed by them in their lap, rests Leh. The power and the strength of the mountains echoing throughout.

Anyone and everyone who I am meeting tell me how I will enjoy observing the colours change. See the cold winter turn into a bustling sweet summer.

Mother Nature protects. And as she turns a new leaf, quite literally, today, let us do the same as well. Embracing and acknowledging change and modifying our actions to be kinder to us and the other many species of this expansive and boundless Earth.

Seasons Change. Slowly. But they do. And all I want for you to take back from this one minute read is to observe, and breathe, and take steps suiting the ongoing change.
